Treatment of Acne Scars
Over the years there have been many ways to treat Acne Scars. Many were not very effective or they involved very invasive techniques with serious side effects and prolonged recovery times (ie. dermabrasion). The latest “gold standard” technique is proving to be VERY effective with minimal “downtime” and few complications or side effects. The Fraxel Laser treats Acne Scars by reducing the pigment at the base of the scar, Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), and by stimulating new collagen production by the body’s fibroblasts. This new collagen builds up the scar from below reducing the depth and diameter of the scar. It works for “ice pick” scarring and for “box car” scars. Is Fraxel Right for You???
Fraxel can treat all ages and skin types (Caucasian, African-American, Asian). Five treatments are usually necessary to see significant results. More treatments may be necessary depending on the severity of the acne scars, the skin type and the desired improvement. The treatments are done 2-4 weeks apart and there is usually one day following the treatment when the face is red and swollen (like an early season sunburn). Treatments can be done on Thursdays and Fridays so you can stay home from work or school the next day.
