Acne Scars
 
Acne scars are very treatable with the new technology that has come along in the last few years.  In the past, we had to use the barbaric “Dermabrasion” which sanded off the top layer of the skin and caused significant pain and downtime.

 

Now we use two different fractionally ablative lasers called the Fraxel and The TotalFx.

 

The Fraxel is a Glass Erbium Laser which produces only one day of downtime per treatment.  Patients usually require 4-6 treatments 3 weeks apart.  Our goal is to reduce the scars by 50-70% in this initial series.  We can achieve additional improvement with additional treatments.

 

The TotalFx is fractional CO2 Laser.  One treatment with the TotalFx is equivalent to 5 treatments with The Fraxel.  Multiple treatments can be done.  Each treatment produces about 5-6 days of downtime.  During the downtime period, the skin is red and crusty.  You feel fine, but probably don’t want to go to work or be seen in public.  This is a great time to do your taxes, clean your attack or watch those classic movies you have been meaning to watch.
